Course overview

This dynamic course has been specially developed for young designers aged 12–15 taking their first steps in graphic and digital design to spark their curiosity and introduce them to the fundamentals of this exciting discipline.

Throughout the course students will harness their creativity and learn how to apply that to a brief while gaining confidence in creating and sharing their work. They’ll study the full design process, from initial idea to final result, and will explore the fundamental principles of graphic design. Along the way they’ll work on a range of different projects including posters, logo design, and typography.

Each week our young designers will learn new skills in graphic design, using digital and analogue equipment and techniques that are vital in the creative industry. Students don’t need to already be an expert in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) or possess any design experience, all we ask is that students come with enthusiasm, ideas and a keen interest in the topic.

Students will be working in our university specialist studio spaces that have been home to our award-winning graduates, using tools and equipment that the creative industries rely on and become a part of our creative community.

We understand how important young creative artists are – they’ve so much potential, untapped abilities, and enthusiasm. On this course they’ll be supported to fully explore their creative talent and future potential as a graphic designer.

We encourage our young artists to be themselves, and as such we harness a budding artists’ natural style and flair, therefore enabling them to utilise existing creative interests and acquire new skills in the development of their own unique creative visual language.

It goes without saying, too, that we ensure all our young learners are included, respected, and supported every step of the way on their creative journey with us.
